Tenderheaded

In Tenderheaded, Michaela angela Davis, a former fashion director at VIBE and collaborator with iconic figures such as Diana Ross and Prince, shares her coming-of-age journey through the vibrant and challenging landscape of Black media. Starting with a pivotal moment from her childhood, Davis reflects on her experiences navigating identity politics as a stylist and editor during the transformative periods of the ’80s and ’90s and into the "post-racial" era. Blending personal narrative and cultural commentary, this work serves as both a tribute to Black women and a critical examination of self-acceptance and media's impact on collective identity.
