In 1986 Decatur, Illinois, Catherine "Cragan" Collins finds herself navigating post-divorce challenges while working as a high-priced newspaper advertising salesperson. Her situation becomes even more complicated when she unexpectedly connects with Ross Gentry, a rugged man from a different background, leading to unforeseen emotional turmoil. Just as she starts to embrace her new life, a series of crises unfold, including a kidnapping and a shooting that implicates her best friend, Pru.
