When Arthur Brynnwood unexpectedly inherits the title of Earl of Castleton following his great-uncle's death, he is thrust into the complexities of managing a dilapidated estate and dealing with an embezzling steward. Amidst rising tensions and demands for increased rents, he encounters the spirited Matilda, who pleads for mercy on behalf of herself and her ill aunt.
