Edmund Spenser, one of England's greatest poets, was born in 1552 and educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge. He gained recognition with his 1579 work, The Shepheardes Calender, and is best known for his epic poem The Faerie Queene, published in two sets between 1590 and 1596. Spenser's literary contributions, including Complaints and Amoretti, earned him admiration from renowned figures such as Milton and Wordsworth. After his death in 1599, he was honored by fellow poets at his burial in Westminster Abbey, marking his lasting impact on English poetry.
