Charles Fletcher Lummis embarked on an extraordinary journey in 1884, walking from Ohio to begin his role at the emerging Los Angeles Times. Over his lifetime, he evolved into a pivotal figure in journalism, authoring nearly two dozen books and editing the prominent magazine Out West, while also serving as Los Angeles city librarian and championing causes such as the preservation of Spanish missions and Indian rights. By the time of his death in 1928, Lummis had left an indelible mark on the perception of the American West and its cultural landscape.
