Twenty-Two on Peleliu

On September 15, 1944, 22-year-old George Peto, part of the US First Marine Division, landed on the strategic island of Peleliu during World War II. Growing up in a challenging environment in Ohio, George preferred the outdoors and sought adventure, leading him to join the Marines alongside his brother. After initial training and assignments, he faced intense combat as a Forward Observer at Peleliu, experiencing fierce fighting before the regiment was relieved. His journey continued six months later as his division prepared for the landing on Okinawa.
