Twelve-year-old Lonny possesses the extraordinary ability to stop death, but each time he saves someone, he sacrifices his own years. To keep his powers hidden, he has always avoided the town of Farstoke, fearing exploitation. However, when financial struggles force him and his brother, Midge, to seek work there, Lonny discovers that the townspeople may not be as threatening as he believed.
