In 1885, ex-convict Emma Grady returns to her hometown of Blackburn, seeking a fresh start with her husband Marlow and their son, but remains haunted by her traumatic past involving her cruel uncle, Caleb Crowther. As Crowther retaliates against Emma for her return, her lost daughter Molly, struggling to support her three children in a life of crime and poverty, mistakenly fears that Crowther is pursuing her. This leads Molly and her children on a desperate flight for survival, battling hunger, exhaustion, and the dangers that come with Molly's striking beauty, all while embodying Emma's resilient spirit.
