The Poetry of Hafiz

Khwāja Shams-ud-Dīn Muḥammad Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī, known as Hafiz, was a renowned Persian poet born in Shiraz, Iran, in the early 14th century. Known for his lyrical poetry, particularly ghazals, Hafiz explored themes of divine ecstasy and societal hypocrisy, earning patronage during his lifetime, including from the court of Tamerlane. Despite the absence of a definitive collection of his works, his poetry remains celebrated for its beauty and intricate wordplay, continuing to influence culture and tradition, as seen in celebrations like Hafiz Day in Iran. Hafiz passed away in 1390, and his mausoleum is located in Shiraz's Musalla Gardens.
