Dick Francis' Refusal

Retired investigator Sid Halley is drawn back into the perilous world of crime when he's approached by Sir Richard Stewart to look into suspicious horse races. Despite his initial refusal, Sir Richard's subsequent murder forces Sid to confront threats against his family and himself from a shadowy figure demanding a whitewashed report. As the intimidation escalates, Sid must decide whether to stand his ground or succumb to the dangerous pressures surrounding him.
