My Monticello

In "My Monticello," a compelling debut by Jocelyn Nicole Johnson, a diverse group of Charlottesville neighbors grapples with survival in a near-future America marked by racial and environmental turmoil. As they seek refuge in Thomas Jefferson's historic plantation home, characters such as Da’Naisha, a young Black descendant of Jefferson and Sally Hemings, face off against violent white supremacists while exploring themes of belonging and inherited burdens. Featuring a full cast of narrators, including LeVar Burton and Aja Naomi King, this award-winning collection delves into the complexities of identity and resilience amidst societal upheaval.
