Edna Worthley Underwood, born in Maine in 1873, was a skilled linguist and esteemed author known for her translations, poetry, and short stories, beginning with her early collaborative work on Nikolai Gogol's writings. While her literary contributions flourished until the 1940s, they ultimately came to an end as she faced health challenges, leading to her admission to a sanatorium for dementia in 1953, where she passed away several years later.
