As a Thief in the Night

In "As A Thief in the Night" by R. Austin Freeman, the unexpected death of invalid Harold Monkhouse prompts his concerned brother, clergyman Amos Monkhouse, to seek medical help, only for it to be revealed that Harold was poisoned with arsenic. With the police stumped by conflicting evidence pointing to someone close to the victim, young barrister Rupert Mayfield believes there must be a hidden truth. He turns to Dr. John Thorndyke, hoping the skilled detective can navigate the murky waters of this complex case, where no clear suspect emerges.
