The Freedom Maze

Set in the backdrop of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and the impending Civil War, The Freedom Maze follows thirteen-year-old Sophie, who reluctantly spends her summer at her grandmother’s house in the Bayou. There, she discovers a maze and, driven by boredom, makes an impulsive wish that transports her back to 1860, a time before the Emancipation Proclamation. Mistaken for a slave on her family's Louisiana sugar plantation, Sophie embarks on a profound journey that intertwines the themes of political and personal liberation in a race-haunted world.
