Amid the blizzard of 1978, the tanker Global Hope ran aground off the Massachusetts coast, prompting the Coast Guard to intervene. When the rescue team encountered perilous conditions, pilot boat captain Frank Quirk assembled his crew and set out on his vessel, the Can Do, to face the treacherous storm known as the "Storm of the Century." As they battled monstrous waves throughout the night, Quirk maintained communication with a local ham-radio operator, ultimately maintaining hope until silence fell after 3 a.m.
