Miss Jane

In "Miss Jane," Brad Watson vividly recounts the life of Miss Jane Chisolm, a woman born in early-20th-century Mississippi with a genital birth defect that complicates her existence amidst societal expectations of sex and marriage. Drawing from his own great-aunt's story, Watson captures a Southern pastoral world filled with the beauty and cruelty of nature, alongside the profound connections Jane forges with those around her, including a caring doctor and a love that is never fully realized. Despite her limitations, Jane's spirited vitality and independence shine through, creating a poignant tale of resilience and unfulfilled desires.
