Tom Crean, a farmer's son from Kerry, embarked on three significant Antarctic expeditions over a century ago, serving alongside notable figures like Captain Robert Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton. Remarkably, he spent more time on the ice than either leader and outlived them both, yet he returned to Ireland and never spoke of his adventures. His incredible story was only unveiled with the publication of An Unsung Hero, which rightfully positions him among the great explorers of history.
