At a tavern in Eastcheap, he encounters a beggar claiming to be Thomas Page, a legendary soldier thought to be dead. Froissart challenges him to recount an authentic version of his life's adventures, setting the stage for a gripping narrative that explores the tumultuous events of the Hundred Years' War and the exploits of mercenary captains in the late 14th century.
