Headstrong linguistics student Johanna Berglund is reluctantly drawn back to her hometown as a translator for German POWs at a nearby camp. Faced with a community rife with hostility and mistrust, she navigates her growing sympathy for the prisoners, especially as she becomes involved with Stefan Werner, a charismatic spokesman. As Johanna pushes for their better treatment, she finds herself at odds with the very town that once rejected her, blurring the lines between compassion and treason.
