Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the United States, served from 1923 to 1929 after rising through Massachusetts state politics, where he was the 48th governor. Known for his decisive response to the Boston Police Strike of 1919, he became vice president in 1920 and assumed the presidency following Warren G. Harding's death. Elected in his own right in 1924, Coolidge earned the moniker "Silent Cal" due to his reserved demeanor and was recognized as a small-government conservative.
