In a world on the brink of war, orphaned brothers Dougray and Robbie, along with their friend Belle, find refuge with the elves, only to be thrust into chaos when monstrous attacks disrupt their peace. Seeking safety, they flee with Navarre, a healer connected to their past, and receive a cryptic prophecy about their futures. Their journey to Twendlemark to secure horses becomes perilous as they face the malevolent demon Morgranus and a mad queen, while Dougray's struggles intensify when Robbie is kidnapped, leading him and Belle into the clutches of Rory, the banished king of the Whistlers.
