A Modest Proposal, a satirical essay by Jonathan Swift published in 1729, offers a shocking solution to Ireland's economic struggles by suggesting that impoverished families sell their children as food for the wealthy. This work not only critiques British authority but also serves as a pivotal example of early modern western satire, making it a valuable resource in literature programs and various academic disciplines. Its engaging use of argumentative language further enhances its relevance in secondary and post-secondary education.
