"Briar Rose" by Jane Yolen offers a poignant retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty tale set against the harrowing backdrop of World War II. As Rebecca uncovers her grandmother Gemma's enchanting stories about Briar Rose, she embarks on a quest to fulfill three impossible promises: to find the castle, the prince, and the spell-maker. Through lyrical prose, Yolen addresses the tragic events of the Holocaust, weaving a narrative of good versus evil that evokes both hope and despair.
