In 1932, Natchez, Mississippi, was thrust into the national spotlight following a sensational murder involving two eccentrics, Richard Dana and Octavia Dockery, who, alongside an African American accomplice, George Pearls, attempted to rob their neighbor, Jennie Merrill, leading to her death. Dubbed "Goat Castle" for its unusual inhabitants and decaying mansion, the case captured media attention, particularly as Pearls was killed before he could stand trial. Amidst the fervor, an innocent black woman, Emily Burns, was wrongfully imprisoned for the crime, while Dana and Dockery escaped justice, highlighting a disturbing narrative of racial injustice intertwined with a true crime story.
