A Teenage Girl in Auschwitz

In January 1943, fourteen-year-old Basha Anush and her family are forcibly taken from their home in Pruzhany, Poland, to Auschwitz, where tragedy strikes as she loses five family members within days. Enduring two-and-a-half years of harrowing abuse, a death march into Germany, and time spent wandering with other displaced girls, Basha clings to a promise made to her mother: she will survive. Ultimately, she emerges with remarkable resilience, starting anew in the United States, raising a family, and pursuing the American Dream, all while carrying the memories of her Holocaust experience.
