On the Psychology and Pathology of So-Called Occult Phenomena

Carl Jung's early professional curiosity about occult phenomena is explored in his 1902 doctorate, The Psychology and Pathology of So-Called Occult Phenomena. In this work, he examines clinical cases involving split consciousness, twilight states, and somnambulism, while also detailing his experiences with an adolescent medium during her séances in the 1890s. Jung attempts to clinically explain the visions she experienced through the theory of cryptomnesia, where memories resurface without recognition.
