Cherokee Lighthorse

In the aftermath of the Civil War, Houston Ballou flees Tennessee on his horse, High Fire, accompanied by his brother, Ruff, sister, Dixie, and four mares from their family farm, one of which is pregnant. As they journey westward in search of a new life, they face the threat of both warring armies and dangerous deserters who would stop at nothing for money or valuable horses.
