In 1985, Charles Ng and Leonard Lake were caught shoplifting, leading to Lake's arrest and the discovery of a horrifying bunker in the Sierra Nevada foothills filled with evidence of numerous violent crimes. As Lake took his own life, Ng escaped to Canada but was eventually apprehended and extradited back to California. The resulting legal battle became California's longest and most expensive criminal case, stretching over 14 years and costing $10 million.
