In 1973, Peter Matthiessen and field biologist George Schaller embark on an expedition into the remote mountains of Nepal to study the Himalayan blue sheep and seek the elusive snow leopard. Alongside their scientific pursuits, Matthiessen, a Zen Buddhism student, undertakes a profound spiritual journey to locate the Lama of Shey at the ancient shrine on Crystal Mountain.
