In the midst of the devastating 1886 Montana drought, Harvard-educated John Quincy Putnam finds himself battling against his desperate neighbors and the harsh realities of ranching life. As he erects barbed wire to protect his livelihood, he faces fierce opposition from rival ranchers like the Birkenheads, who threaten his cattle and grass. With the help of Montana's first woman lawyer, Nicole Autman, Quin must navigate legal and personal challenges, all while protecting the orphaned girl he has taken under his wing.
