The Coach

Isobel Violet Hunt, born in 1862 in Durham and raised among the Pre-Raphaelite artists in London, was a versatile writer known for her contribution to New Woman fiction, as well as her memoirs and biographies. Despite being unmarried, she had significant romantic relationships with literary figures such as Somerset Maugham and H. G. Wells, and she played a pivotal role in advocating for women's rights by founding the Women Writers' Suffrage League and co-founding International PEN. Hunt's reputation is bolstered by her literary salons and her compelling supernatural short stories, notably her work "The Coach," which showcases her flair for black comedy. She passed away in 1942 and is interred at Brookwood Cemetery.
