The Shirt on His Back

In the antebellum South of the 1830s, Benjamin January, a free Black man, physician, and musician, finds himself far from New Orleans and entangled in Western adventures. Joined by Abishag Shaw, who seeks vengeance for his brother’s murder, both men converge at the Rendezvous of the Mountain Men—a chaotic month-long gathering filled with drinking, shooting matches, and trading. However, their excitement turns to unease with the discovery of a corpse, revealing hints of a sinister plot involving madness and murder.
