In "A Wicked Voice," part of the British Library Tales of the Weird collection, young composer Magnus strives to create an unconventional opera but becomes haunted by a ghostly voice that disrupts his creative process. This short story revisits the theme of music from beyond the grave, echoing ideas from Vernon Lee's earlier work, "Winthrop’s Adventure," as Magnus grapples with the influence of the supernatural on his artistic ambitions.
