Vernon Lee, born Violet Paget in 1856, was a prolific writer who adopted a male pseudonym to gain recognition for her literary talents. Her debut work, "Studies of the Eighteenth Century in Italy," showcased her passion for music and the Italian Renaissance. Throughout her career, she published over a dozen volumes of essays and numerous haunting short stories, earning comparisons to renowned authors. A committed pacifist and feminist, Lee navigated her personal life as a lesbian, cultivating significant relationships, and she remained an influential figure until her passing in 1935.
