Arachne

Mayer André Marcel Schwob, born in 1867 in Chaville, France, was a gifted writer celebrated as a symbolist and a precursor of Surrealism. Raised in a cultured Jewish family, he developed a fascination with the macabre from an early age, leading to a successful career as a journalist and author in the 1890s, during which he published six short story collections. Despite struggling with chronic health issues, including an incurable intestinal disorder, Schwob traveled widely and left behind a legacy of over a hundred literary works before his untimely death in 1905 at the age of 37.
