The Rewards of Industry

Richard Garnett C.B. (1835-1906) was a distinguished librarian and author, beginning his career at the British Museum in 1851. Promoted through various high-ranking positions at the British Library, he retired in 1899 after a noteworthy tenure. Garnett was also a prolific translator, bringing numerous works from Greek, German, and other languages to English, while contributing to literature with his own poetry, short stories, and biographies. In recognition of his contributions, he was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 1901.
