Zona Gale, born on August 26, 1874, in Portage, Wisconsin, was an accomplished writer and illustrator who began crafting stories at a young age. After studying at the University of Wisconsin, she moved to New York, working at the New York World and becoming involved in literary circles. Gale returned to her hometown in 1903, fully committing to writing, and her notable works include the Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Miss Lulu Bett." A suffragist and advocate for women's rights, her later writings reflected a turn toward mysticism, especially following the deaths of her parents, until her passing from pneumonia in December 1938.
