The Stones of the Village

Alice Ruth Moore, born on July 19, 1875, in New Orleans, was a prominent figure of the early Harlem Renaissance and an advocate for the rights of black women. After becoming the first in her multi-racial Creole community to obtain a university education, she published her first collection of stories and poems at age 20. Throughout her life, Alice was a prolific writer and journalist, engaging in various social and political causes, and her works, including the short story "The Stones in the Village," reflect her unique insights on race and identity. Alice lived until September 18, 1935, leaving a lasting influence on American literature and civil rights activism.
