Fledgling

Theo Waitley's life takes an unexpected turn when her mother, Kamele, leaves her longtime partner, Jen Sar Kiladi, forcing them to move into faculty housing at the university where they both work. As Kamele gets entangled in university politics, Theo—who grapples with being labeled "physically challenged"—navigates a series of awkward situations at school. When Kamele uncovers potential misconduct within her department, she decides to take Theo along on a critical off-world investigation, shattering Theo's hopes of returning to the comfort of their previous home.
