The Poetry of Radclyffe Hall

Born in 1880 to wealthy but neglectful parents, Marguerite Radclyffe-Hall had a tumultuous upbringing punctuated by a private education and travels across Europe, eventually settling in Germany. In her personal life, she formed a significant relationship with Mabel Batten and later lived with sculptor Una Troubridge. Hall’s literary career began with early poetry, but she gained prominence with her controversial novel, The Well of Loneliness, published in 1928, which directly reflected her sexual orientation. Despite health challenges later in life, Hall left a lasting impact on literature before her death in 1943.
