The Storm

In "The Storm," Kate Chopin explores a chance sexual encounter between Calixta and her former lover Alcée during a heavy Louisiana storm, while her husband and son are away. Written in 1898, the story is notable for its modern portrayal of intimacy, presenting the liaison as a natural and inevitable force, much like the storm itself. Chopin's narrative challenges the restrictive morals of her time, offering a refreshingly bold perspective on desire and connection.
