In this queer historical thriller set in 1927 Washington, D.C., seventeen-year-old Gertrude and her friends Clara and Milly dive into the hidden nightlife of the roaring twenties, fueled by desire for freedom amidst Prohibition. Their adventure takes a dark turn when they return from a speakeasy to find their headmistress, Mrs. Rose, murdered. Determined to clear her mentor's name while grappling with her own feelings for her friends, Gertrude navigates a dangerous world of grifters and shady agents, questioning the truth behind the glittering facade of society.
