The Dream of Civilized Warfare

In The Dream of Civilized Warfare, Linda R. Robertson explores how the portrayal of air combat during World War I shaped the United States' emergence as a global military power. She examines the creation of the first American air force and the propaganda surrounding the concept of the "flying ace," which presented a romanticized vision of warfare that masked the harsher realities of ground combat. This narrative continues to influence public discussions, media portrayals, and policy decisions regarding military engagement.
