Watchmen of Rome

In Rome circa AD 27, Gaius Valerius Carbo returns from 25 years of military service seeking a peaceful retirement, only to find his life upended by local thugs and the loss of his family. After unintentionally becoming the owner of a tavern, he is faced with a disturbing reminder of his past—his childhood friend Rufa, now sold into slavery and pursued by a powerful priestess named Elissa, who aims to dismantle Rome from within. As Carbo grapples with this crisis, he must decide whether he can protect Rufa and thwart Elissa's sinister plot against the empire.
