In a near-future New Orleans, Geneviève Crowe, a skilled beheader of the undead known as draugar, faces an escalating crisis as her magic falters. With human businessmen mysteriously transforming into draugar, she is enlisted by both the queen of the again-walkers and a wealthy victim's son to uncover the truth. To complicate matters, her only chance for support comes from Eli Stonecroft, a faery bar-owner whose presence threatens her heart and future. As Geneviève navigates this dangerous web of magic, murder, and temptation, she strives to keep the dead at bay and secure her livelihood.
