Theogony and Works and Days

Hesiod, the first notable figure in European literature, offers insight into ancient Greek culture through two seminal works. In the Theogony, he presents a genealogy of gods and chronicles their tumultuous battles leading to the current order. Meanwhile, Works and Days serves as a guide to honest farming and reveals the ethics, superstitions, and societal norms of archaic Greece. His poetry is also the earliest source for the enduring myths of Prometheus, Pandora, and the Golden Age.
