The House of Discarded Dreams

Vimbai seeks refuge from her embarrassing immigrant mother by moving into a rundown house by the dunes, where she encounters a series of fantastical elements, including a roommate with a pocket universe for hair and a psychic energy baby in the telephone wires. As her new home becomes engulfed by the sea and inhabited by creatures from African urban legends, Vimbai finds herself turning to horseshoe crabs for assistance in navigating her way back to New Jersey.
