Naxos AudioBooks presents A Shropshire Lad by A. E. Housman, part of The Great Poets series. Originally self-published in 1896 after being rejected by mainstream publishers, this collection features 63 poignant poems that delve into themes of lost love, obsession, pessimism, and mortality. The verses, set against a pastoral backdrop of Shropshire, resonated deeply with readers during significant historical events like the Second Boer War and World War I, and include notable works such as "When I Was One-and-Twenty" and "To an Athlete Dying Young."
