Amy Levy

Amy Levy, born in London in 1861 into a wealthy Anglo-Jewish family, was a pioneering writer and the first Jewish student at Newnham College, Cambridge. Her literary career began at a young age, with notable works including her poem "Ida Grey" and acclaimed stories published in Oscar Wilde's magazine. Levy's writings often explore feminist themes and Jewish identity, exemplified in her novels "Romance of a Shop" and "Reuben Sachs." Despite her creative success, she struggled with depression and deafness, ultimately leading to her tragic death by suicide at the age of 27.
