Claude Wheeler, a young man from Nebraska, dreams of attending State University but finds himself leading a typical college experience at Temple College. His life takes a dramatic turn when his successful father decides to expand the family farm, forcing Claude to abandon his studies to support this ambition. As war breaks out in Europe, Claude enlists in hopes of escaping his unfulfilling circumstances and discovering a greater purpose.
